I looked, and didn't see a thread dedicated to this ...
A friend took me to Bakesale Betty's today for her signature Fried Chicken Sandwich. OMFG, What a yummy, sinful sandwich.
Not the healthiest meal I've devoured, but it's (almost) worth clogging the arteries for. Looks like they have some yummy desert treats as well as a fun, friendly staff.
You can't miss 'Betty,' (her real name is Alison) she wears a neon blue wig and speaks with a faint Australian accent.
They're located at 5098 Telegraph Ave in Oakland ~ the south/east corner of Telegraph and 51st.
I'm warning you, prepare yourself for a sinful treat!

Re: Bakesale Betty!
Fri, March 9, 2007 - 6:01 PMwe were just in there today for cookies. Cookies are only $1, and they are fantastic! I especially love the big chewy ginger cookies.
They also make the best scones, IMO. Again, ginger/pear scones are to die for.
Love the chicken sandwich, but if I go get lunch in that area, it's to go to La Calaca Loca on the opposite corner, so I haven't had one of those sandwiches in a long time.
Betty's doesn't have an extensive menu, but what they do, they do well. the place is crawling with happy staff, "tables" consist of stools, ironing boards, and milk crates. -

Re: Bakesale Betty!
Thu, March 15, 2007 - 9:59 AMjust a comment on La Calaca Loca. I haven't had all that great experieces there. I really want that place to rock because I live nearby, but their vegetarian options aren't all that great; I found my vegetarian burrito to be mostly shredded cabbage, and pretty bland. I'm stoked to hear that their other options are better though, that area needs more cool, quick places to eat! -

Fri, March 9, 2007 - 7:49 PMYeah I love Bakesale Betty. It's in my hood and so hard to resist. If you are ever in the area, stop by and try just about anything there. You'll love it.

Tue, March 13, 2007 - 12:12 PMmmmm i love their egg salad sandwichs - with pickled red onions; d'lish!!!
they make the best latte's i can find, doesn't have the burnt stale flavor i find everywhere -
-
Re: Bakesale Betty!
Thu, March 15, 2007 - 8:48 AMI'm a latte' fiend, but I'd never had one there. Since they're more or less on my way to work, I thought I'd check their latte's out.
you are so right. They are fantastic!! Perfect foam (even on a nonfat), and not burnt milk or coffee.
I also deviated from the norm to get a rhubarb-orange scone (I usually get pear-ginger). Haven't tried it yet, but it sounds so interesting!

Re: Bakesale Betty!
Sun, March 18, 2007 - 10:26 PMI am now intrigued about their egg salad. There is only one place I get egg salad sandwiches, Jonathans in Alameda. I so love their egg salad and cream of broccoli soup, on wednesdays. My boyfriend lives just around the corner from Bakesale Betty, I think it's finally time to try it while he still lives there.

Re: Bakesale Betty!
Tue, September 11, 2007 - 3:52 PMI remember Betty from about 3 years ago when i first moved to the Bay Area. She would be at our Farmers Market and before i could even think about what I wanted she would stuff me with multiple samples and Id walk away with much more than I intended. Wonderful.
The store on Telegraph is equally wonderful. Her chicken sandwich was recently profiled in the Chronicle - sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi -
