I like the La Pena option as well but you might also want to try Camino on Grand. They have great food and a fun atmosphere. I looked here for our reception that is in Aug but we had too many people. Hope you find a good place!

If anyone is interested, we ended up having it at Pyramid in Berkeley.

They have a really nice buffet menu, the price is $30 or less per person, depending on what you want to serve.

The food was great (chicken, tri-tip and salmon) and we had a great server.

I wouldn't have thought to do it there, but my husband found it and it was well within our budget. I'd been to Pyramid before, but mostly had sandwiches or fish & chips, so I had no idea they could fancy it up properly. They did a great job.

Also, don't neglect Solano avenue...I can't think of some place I'd invite 20 guests to off hand but Ajanta might be accomodating if you want Indian.

Well, the midwesterners are far more adventurous than the groom. I forgot about Pomegranate. That may be worth a sampling, for me anyway.

I'll check out the menus of the suggested places and see if we can agree on something. This is probably harder than picking a date for the wedding.

Pomegranate in Berkeley. Also Venicia--both are on University. Both moderate to expensive, estimated at around $30/plate if people are wining and dining. Decent wine menus. Less adventuresome, more traditional, and can be cheaper, Giovanni's.

Or, if you can get them to set aside 20 seats in advance...

http://www.lamediterranee.net/pages/lamedberkeley.html

They do catering as well but their metza is a good adventure...although not as traditional as some want.

Hmm. Then there that new cajun restaurant on Shattuck...

Congratulations! And I hope the above gives you some ideas!

We are looking for a restaurant for our rehearsal dinner. Can be fairly casual, but I want good food and it must be able to accommodate 20 people.

If I could afford it, we would do this at Nopa, but also want to keep things in the East Bay to avoid lots of driving for out-of-towners. A lot of folks will be here from the Midwest, and I also want to treat them to the goodness that is dining in California.

Any suggestions? Thanks!
