Ive been in Berkley nearly 2 years now, and all though I have found many restaurants I like as far as food goes, the places that have good service are very few, and some that have good service are inconsistent.
what I mean by "good service" is:
refilling drinks frequently
checking in with a customer
taking empty plates and dropping the bill in a timely manner
coming by, even when its busy, just to let the customer know that you will be right with them
remembering requested items, like ketchup, extra napkins, etc.
Its a shame, so many places have such good food, but the service is so bad, I dont even like to go.

Re: Whats with all the bad service?
Fri, September 19, 2008 - 11:19 AMtypical american frisbee service IMHO.
Toss a plate at you, toss it back.
Toss a check at you, toss a credit card back.
Hard to get good service anywhere these days, even fine dining.
There's an art to it. I took a 7 day service class at CIA and learned french, russian and american service....can't find these talents amongst the waitrons of today -

Re: Whats with all the bad service?
Sat, September 20, 2008 - 12:46 AMwell, I dont want service where the waitstaff doesnt speak freely, I quite like a waiter or waitress that can crack jokes or be genuine, not stiff. The main reason I preferred Bouchon over French Laundry wasnt the food, but the friendliness of staff. The Bouchon bartender, Randy, is hillarious!
