I'm so bored with all my usual places to eat. I'm looking for places new. What are some of your favorite east bay restaurants? Favorite date night places? Favorite places for kids? Favorite place to grab a quick bite?

Tue, January 29, 2008 - 5:38 PMJust went to Cocina Poblana in Emeryville last week. Amazing! Really good Mexican food that you almost never find outside of Mexico (for example: Chiles en nogada: Chile poblano stuffed with shredded turkey, dried fruit, and toasted almonds covered with a velvety almond sauce garnished with fresh pomegranate seeds. Delicious!) as well as cafe de olla.
Here's the website: www.cocinapoblana.com/ -

Tue, February 26, 2008 - 1:32 AMLivermore: Lemon Grass (Thai) allegedly the best place in Livermore and, frankly, it was good and measure up to the best in the East Bay and has a just different enough (fresh) taste to make it worth a drop in on a drive-by. -

Re: Favorite EB Restaurants
Mon, March 10, 2008 - 8:32 PMI do not eat meat or chicken.
LoCoCo - Italian, Berkeley, Shattuck and Rose, great eggplant and anchovy pizza, eggplant parmesan and eggplant pizza too
Jimmy Bean's - Gilman and Sixth, Berkeley, my favorite brunch place, breakfast all day and evenings too, Mediterranean plate, and grilled salmon on white beans
Ajanta - Indian, top of Solano, Berkeley, more $ than other Indian restaurants but worth it, order his specials which he changes every month and not the normal Indian items. He uses less fat than other Indian restaurants so the normal dishes do not taste as good but his specials are wonderful. Make reservations. Great tandoori portabella appetizer, good salad too.
Britt Marie's - middle of Solano Ave, I get the green salad and add feta cheese and the spanokopita appetizer. I don't like their desserts. Main dishes mostly meat, and chicken.
Bau Luang - Thai, bottom of Solano, Albany, my favorite Thai place now. Great fish cakes, salmon with special curry sauce and Thai fried rice.
New World Vegetarian - Oakland

Dopo
Piedmont Ave. in Oakland
Long wait but so worth it!!! Great modern Italian food: fresh pasta, crudo, amazing pizza. Great for dates.
Pomegranate
University Ave in Berkeley
Upscale Mediterranean with excellent roasted meats, house made dolma and hummas. Try the pomegranate feta spread or pomegranate chicken. Sometimes they also have roast duck with pomegranate sauce...simply divine. Great for dates.
Brown Sugar Kitchen
Mandala Pkwy. in Oakland
Great new brunch/lunch cafe with lots of tables and excellent Southern inspired foods. Gotta get the grits!!!
Tuk Tuk Thai
Shattuck in Berkeley
Best cheap fast eats for thai...often better than the expensive places too! Great noodle soups.

Ok, the Essenay Cafe in Niles is in the in between the east bay and the south bay, but its a great space and you can make an evening of it by checking out a silent film at the theater just a few doors down!

Wed, April 30, 2008 - 12:21 PMSUGATA is the best! and Ik we need to meet up there some time soon as I haven't had my sushi fix in a while (tho last one was there of course!) -- ps please don't let the super lovely people at Tachibana on College Ave (near Rockridge BART) know about me being a traitor shhhhhh I have loved you too Tachibana, for almost 20 years already, and especially because you don't have a TV over the sushi bar in your restaurant for everyone to be distracted from the lovely and relaxing art of eating grrrr Sugata - unplug the damn thing already! -

Indeed. I'm always down for that. I'm in the neighborhood every other Thursday if you can do an early (6pm-ish) dinner.
I cut them a little slack for the tv as the first night there (back in 96) we bonded over Iron Chef over wayyyyyy too much after dinner sake.
