My boyfriend told me last night that he wants to go to a diner/coffee shop for dinner tomorrow (Friday). Any suggestions? I can think of a few places, but they aren't open at dinnertime. I'm stumped on this one.

Since I live right by there, I'm looking for something not in my immediate neighborhood. Plus, I find it overpriced for just OK food.

I just remembered the Claremont Diner. Anyone have experience there?

In my opinion, Claremont Diner is just okay. It's usually pretty empty.

What about Saul's in Berkeley? Would a Jewish Delicatessen suffice? :-) Saul's has some good diner food.

There's also Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe in Emeryville. They have a delicious milkshake made with Guinness Stout, chocolate ice cream, and espresso. M'm, m'm!

        Ole's Waffle Shop in Alameda?

        I'm getting hungry!

        Have a good time!

I suggested Saul's, but he doesn't like it.

Rudy's is on the "we-will-never-go-there-again" list. Worse than bad service 3 times in a row put them there. I could go on and on about how terrible Rudy's is, but I won't.

Forgot about Ole's. I think we have a winner. Thanks Emily!

ugh I too have Rudy's on my Never-Again List after the suckiest of consistently sucky service, and I had been going since the day it opened. And I totally agree with the poster regarding the Claremont Diner which is just oh so uninspired and mediocre for the cost, oh crap really for *any* cost. ohmmmy Merritt fried chicken mmm! Max's Diner is icky too, and was always filthy when I was forced to go there against my will, which is strong enough to avoid it now ;O)

...but what about Fenton's? The menu is totally diner food, and last I was there for dinner it was great!
